No data collected by the developer

Latch does not collect or send data to its developer. We operate no servers for the app and use no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

Your files and permissions

Latch reads files you choose to protect and stores their contents and restoration metadata, including their original paths, in Apple Keychain. Settings, folder-access permissions, and information needed to deliver and restore protected files are stored locally on your Mac.

When you approve access, Latch delivers the requested contents through the local file system. Unprotect and Export write those contents to a regular file at your chosen destination.

iCloud Keychain

Items stored in the Data Protection Keychain are marked for synchronization. If you enable iCloud Keychain, Apple may synchronize their contents and metadata across your devices using its end-to-end encrypted Keychain service. This is controlled by your Apple settings and governed by Apple’s privacy policy. The Latch developer cannot access these items. Separate keychain files do not synchronize through Latch.

Touch ID

macOS handles Touch ID authentication. Latch receives the authentication result, not your fingerprint or other biometric data.

Restoring your files

Unprotect restores your original file contents to a regular file and retains the saved Keychain item. Export saves an unprotected copy at a location you choose. Removing Latch does not automatically delete its Keychain items. To delete a saved item, use Delete in Latch; deletion of synchronized items also propagates through iCloud Keychain.

Support

If you email support, I receive your email address and the information you choose to include, and use it to respond to your request. Please do not send secret file contents or credentials.
